What grasscloth wallpaper actually is
“Grasscloth” is a trade umbrella, not one SKU. On a spec it usually means a natural weave wallcovering:
Sisal wallpaper — tighter, often used for printed botanicals on a natural ground
Jute wallpaper — looser, more rustic, usually a lower price per yard
Paperweave — quieter texture, good behind art
Raffia and abaca — coarser face, more shadow
Each strip can shift a little in tone. That is the point. If the client wants a perfectly even field, you are not specifying grasscloth. You are specifying vinyl that looks like grasscloth. We stock both. Compare vinyl wallpaper when the room has to wipe down.

Visible seams, dye lots, and West Texas air
This is the part catalogs skip and installers live with.
Grasscloth is often hung butt-seamed. Seams will show. Tell the client that in the presentation, not after the first strip. Reverse hanging, lot pairing, and lighting (grazing vs diffuse) change how loud those seams read.
West Texas is dry. Natural fibers move. Acclimate the rolls in the room, prime correctly, and use the adhesive the mill wants, not leftover vinyl paste. Full prep notes are in the grasscloth care guide.

Do not spec raw grasscloth on a cooktop wall or inside a shower. Powder rooms with a fan are a maybe. Dining rooms, bedrooms, and conference rooms are the usual wins.

Kantha is an allover floral inspired by an Indian textile tradition, rendered in running stitches on a textured grasscloth ground. Mid-scale. Pattern plus dimension, not a blank weave. Use it when the room needs a natural ground and a motif, not a flat painted wall.

Medium-scale palms, hand-drawn, not a tropical cliché. This is the dining room or powder that needs a motif and a natural ground. Sisal will still show seams. Plan the layout around windows before you cut.

Grasscloth vs vinyl (the honest version)
Use grasscloth wallpaper when the priority is tactile luxury and the room is dry.

How to order grasscloth by the yard
1. Pick the SKU and colorway on the shop. Write both on the finish schedule.
2. Measure walls, then run the math with how to estimate wallpaper yardage. Grasscloth waste is mostly trim and corners, not a large repeat, unless you chose a printed sisal like Palm or Agra.
